PGPA Act section 26 The duty to act in good faith and for proper purpose requires that an approver must not approve a proposal to spend public money unless the approver is satisfied, after making such inquiries as are reasonable, that the proposed expenditure:

  • is in accordance with the policies of the Australian Government;
  • will make efficient, effective, economic and ethical (proper) use of the public money; and
  • if the proposal is one to spend special public money, is consistent with the terms under which the money is held by the Australian Government.
